Most experts are awestruck by the manufacturing process that the Cold Steel Recon 1 goes through. First, the Japanese AUS 8A Stainless steel is vacuum heat-treated. Then it is sub-zero quenched. It is then coated with Tuff-Ex in order to provide protection and maximum slide. The grip is etched to simplistic G-10 laminate scale perfection. This provides lots of grip and looks great.

First is the look. Consumers always fall for edgy-looking knives that look dangerous even when sheathed, or in this case, folded. The design, grip, and non-reflective finish fit the criteria well.
Second is its utility. For a knife that has a 2 to 4-inch blade, this can cut through things bigger knives can’t. Part of the reason is the curved design that allows you to cut with ease. Next is the finishing coat that also acts a lubricant, meaning you encounter less resistance when you cut. Also, you have a firm grip, allowing you to exert maximum force. This knife is a very popular survival knife as well.
Third is its folding mechanism. The ball located near the base of the knife acts as a grip for folding and unfolding. It also serves as an additional guard when pushing down to cut.
