Best Skinning Knife: Tips in Finding One

Selecting the best skinning knife for you depends primarily on the type of hunting that you do, and the type of prey you hunt. Likewise, your personal preferences, the handle style, and the size of the best skinning knife, among others, should be considered. This is to make sure that the knife will be comfortable enough for you to handle.

Buck Knives 0103 Skinner Fixed Blade Knife with Leather Sheath

Ideally, the type of best skinning knife you must look for is something that is particularly sharp, and will remain sharp for a long time, even after frequent use. The blade must require a minimal amount of sharpening and one that is not too difficult to sharpen whenever necessary. Remember, however, not to wait for the blade to be very dull before sharpening.

It is also important to find a best skinning knife that is easy to carry. When you are in the woods or perched on a deer stand, for sure, you do not want to have the additional burden of carrying a very heavy knife, even though you know that it will come in handy once you have made your kill.

Instead, what you need is a knife that you can easily attach to your belt, or keep in your backpack until the time comes when you need to use it. A skinning knife does not need to be particularly heavy to be effective, but just of the right weight.

Why We Like the Buck 103 Skinner Best

To be sure, Buck’s 103 Skinner is not the only quality skinning knife on the market.  We also like the Cold Steel Mini Tac Skinner for the value it offers, and there are others!  Many on the market are fairly cheap in both price and quality, but Buck stands WAY out above most.  Why?  I’ll start with the obvious.  The buck brand is synonymous with insanely good quality.  Their warranty is second to none, they’re nice to look at, and they won’t be outdone by anyone in terms of longevity (quality), durability and classic “hunter” looks.  It has more than 5 times the number of users’ skinning knife reviews on Amazon, and at 4.7 out of 5.0 stars, I think we hardly need say more!  If Iwere you and even kind of thinking about a skinning knife, I’d check out the details HERE.  But wait, before you go, I’ll drop you a tidbit;  MANY reviewers mention that while this is officially a “skinning” knife, they purchased it as an “everyday” knife and even a table knife that is insanely sharp and even cuts paper better than scissors.  Okay, now you can click …. HERE!

Conclusion

Best Skinning knives are a must have for any hunter and a well-made skinning knife will last you forever.  For what it’s worth, we couldn’t find any significant drawbacks of this knife.  Many reviewers said just that!  When we dug a bit deeper, here’s the worst flaw we found.  Someone said, ” … I would have liked to see the blade a bit thicker like 4mm instead of the 3mm, but still I LOVE this knife”.  Sound like a serious criticism to you?  Ya, not to me either!
